prop_static Tests.

Since my last mapping update I have slightly changed directions. The map I was working on, while functional, didn’t turn out to be anything worth releasing and I wasn’t really learning much from the development. I wanted to get more experience working with prop_static entities. So I decided to create a simple boxed room, and I begun to detail the walls using the Portal 2 “Destroyed” theme.

The puzzle in this map is very short, and it really only has one stage to it. I’m mostly making this map to get the hang of detailing properly, instead of creating a complex puzzle. So far I’m pretty proud with what I’ve come up with. The picture above is the first wall I finished, and I’ve attempted to keep the same theme throughout.

The map has gone through a lot of changes. The above screenshot is what I considered to be “done” a day or two ago.

I quickly decided that it wasn’t good enough. I wanted to have a primary focal point in the level, so I decided I would cave the ceiling in. Creating this ceiling has so far been very tedious, but I really love the atmosphere it brings. I’ve also added a few smaller details to the puzzle.

Things are progressing slowly, but I should have this completed later this week. This is more of a showpiece, instead of a standard puzzle test chamber. When it’s done it will be available on my site, and the Steam workshop when the Portal 2 DLC hits via my Steam profile.
